My husband and I got married in April 2006 and immediately began trying to have a baby. Since we were older (40 and 42 respectively), after nine months of no luck, we began to investigate the local fertility clinics in the area since we realized we didn’t have any time to waste. Unfortunately, our experience here was not the most positive as the clinic (supposedly “the best”) offered me little hope after my FSH came back at 15.6, although all of my other tests were normal. I was immediately told that I had less than 1% chance of ever conceiving, even with fertility drugs and that they would not help me. I read this as them not wanting to hurt their numbers by taking on a patient that would be more challenging. They were more than willing to work with me with a Donor egg, but at that time, my husband and I wanted to at least have a shot at a biological child before we considered that option.

 

My husband and I were incredibly discouraged and upset with the options given to us, so we made plans to investigate other clinics in NYC, where I had recently lived. We knew the Dr’s and clinics there were more progressive thinkers and willing to take on more challenging cases, since I had friends there who had successfully conceived. Before we had a chance to do this, I met a woman on an infertility chat room who recognized that I was in KC and called to give me some advice, since she had been trying to conceive in KC for some time and knew all of the Dr’s here. Needless to say, her advice was incredibly helpful, as she lead me to Mary!

 

She couldn’t say enough about Mary and how wonderful and successful she had been with others battling infertility and I immediately decided to go and see her. Though I didn’t know what to expect, I was certainly willing to try anything at this point. Mary was nothing but positive….what a change from what I had experienced! She immediately began working with me twice a week to figure out what was going on with my body and what I needed to do to get my body ready for a baby. I found sessions with her to be relaxing and positive, just what a woman needs that is going through such a difficult situation.

 

I had been tracking my ovulation faithfully for about a year with ovulations sticks and the old fashioned method and always ovulated on day 16-18 without fail. After about 5 weeks with Mary (I think it was 8 total sessions), I began to track my ovulation around day 12, just like I always did. There was really no reason to check it earlier in the cycle since I ovulated like clockwork and those sticks are expensive! Well, day 18 came, then day 20, and so on and I was incredibly distraught as it appeared that I never ovulated that month and I convinced myself that I was going into menopause! Little did I know, that after working with Mary for 8 sessions, my ovulation had changed from day 16-18 to day 7 or 8 and during that time, my husband and I conceived naturally. You can imagine my shock when I took a pregnancy test a few weeks later and it was positive!

 

Now, 9 months later, I am about to deliver my first child (a boy!) after a very easy and uneventful pregnancy that my husband and I thank Mary for every day. If it wasn’t for her, we are convinced that we would not be in this wonderful situation and expecting our first child. As a matter of fact, as soon as we are able, we are going to work with Mary for # 2!
